ZIELNIK NOWY: Outdoor Inauguration of the New Music Cycle: Etno na Wesołej

Zielnik by the Słowiński family resonated on the outdoor stage at Kraków's Wesoła, next to the "Stara Kuchnia," on August 25, 2024. The event took place within the extraordinary scenery of the illuminated installation "Przemiana" by Jarosław Koziara, part of the renowned Open City exhibition, which is being hosted in Kraków until the end of August this year. The performance was met with ovations from an audience of several hundred people.

Performers:

Joann Słowińska – vocals

Oktet Stanisława Słowińskiego:

Stanisław Słowiński – violin,

Franciszek Raczkowski – piano,

Szymon Frankowski – double bass,

Adam Stępniowski – drums,

Krzysztof Katana - I violin,

Agata Front - II violin,

Aleksander Frankiewicz – viola,

Dominik Frankiewicz – cello.

The premiere of Zielnik took place at the Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music in Lusławice with the Sinfonietta Cracovia orchestra. Subsequent performances included a concert with the AUKSO orchestra conducted by Marek Moś and with the Beethoven Academy Orchestra during the Cracovia Sacra festival at the Corpus Christi Basilica in Kraków's Kazimierz district.

Zielnik is a composition by Stanisław Słowiński—a composer, violinist, and winner of numerous awards, including the Grand Prix Jazz Juniors and the Audience Award at the 1st Zbigniew Seifert International Competition—set to the texts by Jan Słowiński. The literary layer of Zielnik is a calendar that combines the rigor of the seasons and annual customs (e.g., "Green Holidays," "Assumption Day," "Seed Sowing Day"), inspirations from the Old Testament "Song of Songs," and interpretations of themes rooted in traditional hagiographic and apocryphal stories. Zielnik also features a variety of musical forms: from jazz ballads ("Polar Carol") to ascetic ostinato string textures ("Zofia," "Stanisław ze Szczepanowa," "Ignacy"), to rock energy ("Via Dolorosa," "Assumption Day"). All of this contributes to the natural color of Zielnik: a full range of musical and interpretative tones, shades, and references to the inevitably intertwined signs of the sacred and profane that surround and penetrate us.
