ROZSTAJE / Crossroads Association: at the Crossroads of Cultures and Traditions
ROZSTAJE / Crossroads Association: at the Crossroads of Cultures and Traditions, carries out international educational, festival, concert, phonographic and publishing projects.
The program of the projects carried out by the Association emphasises on the promotion of performers cultivating traditions derived from the oldest sources of musical culture and artists for whom the inspiration from ethno music is the starting point for their own, creative interpretation. The imperative chosen by the Association is an activity minding endangered traditions and supporting initiatives that are encouraging the attitude of tolerance, integration, intercultural dialogue and communication in the field of art.
The long-term, international "flagship" project of the Association is the EtnoKraków / Rozstaje Festival, which has been carried out continuously for twenty-two years in partnerships with many important cultural institutions (including the Krakow Festival Office, Polish Radio, Radio Krakow, TVP Kultura) with the support of the City of Krakow, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Malopolska Region and the National Center for Culture. The EtnoKraków / Rozstaje Festival over the years gathered over 400 bands from four continents; it is one of the most important festivals dedicated to the international ethno and world music scene in Poland and Europe.
The Rozstaje / Crossroads Association is also the animator of the long-term concert and educational cycle: StrefaEtno / StrefaJazz, carried out at the Strefa club in Krakow, presenting artists from the Polish and European ethno and world music scene (StrefaEtno), the jazz and improvised music scene (StrefaJazz) and the sung poetry scene (cycle Dwukropek [Colon]). Important educational projects of the Association also include: the Krakow House of Dance initiative, dedicated to Polish traditional dances, the cycle: "Między Wisłą a Dunajem" [Between the Vistula and the Danube] and Fonó Kraków - meetings carried out in cooperation with the Budapest publishing house Fonó and the community of Hungarian houses of dance, gathering people practicing and interested in traditional dances of Poland, Slovakia and Hungary.
