EtnoKraków/Crossroads 2020

OnEarth - OnAir - OnLine 18-22 August 2020

Dear all,

the theme of the 22nd edition of the festival is dialogue. Musical dialogue with tradition, intercultural dialogue, social dialogue. In the era of pandemic limitations, and at the same time: almost unlimited access to technical tools of communication, paradoxically, the deficit of direct relations, conversations, meetings, listening to the words, music and each other is deepening. We will hear artists for whom dialogue is a natural starting point for their artistic search and whose activity is an act of creating new values, a real sign of understanding between separate and often distant worlds. On the outdoor stage of the festival (OnEarth, 22.08, Forty Kleparz), Derico Alves Forró Band (Brazil) will play with South American lightness and Sokół Orchestra (Poland) with finesse and Slavic fire. Traditional Persian music and the poetry of Rumi - a Sufi mystic will be brought closer to us by the Iranian Hamdam Trio. At the end of this year's edition, the legendary Krakow band KROKE will perform. They are one of the most outstanding bands of the European ethno and world music scene. This is what they say about their music: „improvisation is a kind of portal through which the worlds of our souls go straight to those who want to explore these worlds”. Outdoor concerts will be hosted by: Krzysztof Trebunia-Tutka and Piotr Krasnowolski. Among the artists of the festival's club stage (19-21.08, Strefa club, Św. Tomasza Street 31) we will hear Syrian composer, multi-instrumentalist, oud virtuoso - Wassim Ibrahim in a joint project with Mexican drummer Tomas Sanchez. The Moroccan artist Mustapha El Boudani, who is inspired by Saharan music and singing in the hassanijja dialect, will also perform in a duet with Polish singer Anna Witczak, known from the band Dikanda. The fusion of flamenco and Indian music will be presented by the Indialucia group led by Michał Czachowski. This year's formula: OnEarth - OnAir - OnLine consist of live concerts (respecting all the rules resulting from the need to prevent the spread of the coronavirus), radio transmissions (and retransmissions), streaming and online activities during and after the festival, dedicated to the part of the audience that, for various reasons, will not be able to participate directly in the events. Open-air concerts will be held in Forty Kleparz in Krakow (August 22), smaller concerts at the Strefa club in Krakow (August 19-21), music and traditional crafts workshops - at the Strefa club and in the spaces of ŻyWa Pracownia (August 20-22). An important part of this year's edition of the festival will also be the premiere online video broadcasts (in September and October) of recordings of the festival concerts from previous years. We also invite you to a virtual vernissage (18.08, facebook.com/etnokrakow) of an exhibition of awarded and recognized works of the International Poster Competition of the EtnoKraków / Crossroads Festival: Dialogue - Openness - Tolerance - dedicated to graphic interpretations of the project idea and over twenty years of festival tradition. Let's meet at the Crossroads. Ready to meet the new one, being open to dialogue.
