Tegie Chłopy band continues the tradition of Kielce region dance music in its authentic and unchanged form. Repertoire and instrumentarium refers to best examples – traditional bands playing on former rural weddings and dances around Łagów and Opatów, to Witkowski brothers band from Orłowiny, Krakowiacy from Zbelutka, Anthoni Witkowski from Cisów and many others.
The band’s name is a musical statement: first of all ”chłopy play” – lilting melodies typical of the eastern region of Kielce, also called ”światówki” or ”śpiwy”. Tęgie Chłopy want to play for dancing, so that the ”ceiling was lifted” – as it reportedly happened at parties where the famous band Witkowski brothers played. The presence of a strong brass section - trumpet, clarinet, definitely helps to lift the ceiling.
