Stefan Groot Trio / Jacek & Alicja Hałas (Denmark/Poland)

(Night of Dance: 19.07.2013, 9:00 PM, Magazyn Kultury | Kolanko No. 7)

(WORKSHOPS: Polish and Danish traditional dances: 19.07.2013, 4:30-6:00 PM and 20.07.2013, 3:00-4:30 PM, Magazyn Kultury | Kolanko No. 7)

Despite the "separating" Baltic Sea - the dance ties between Poland and Denmark are large, which can be seen directly during the dance workshops. The main topic of the classes will be the mazurka ("mazurek"), which - having set off into the world in the 17th century - returns again to favor in Poland ... In Denmark, the mazurka takes on interesting forms, which we can also find in folk dances in Kurpie, Wielkopolska and Malopolska regions.

Jacek Hałas' areas of interest are: traditions of wandering singers, pageant and vortex dances, workshop organizing and other educational activities. Since 2005 together with his wife Alicja (folk percussion instruments) as Nomadzi Kultury [Nomads of the Culture] they travel all over Europe with their own yurt, where they present effects of their long research and projects realized with other artists from all over the world. Jacek Hałas has been searching for years for traces of „Poor Wanderers” songs in living tradition, ethnographic records, home archives and he also practices playing on the traditional instrument of wandering singers – a hurdy-gurdy.
