SOKÓŁ ORCHESTRA / Poland

22.08.2020  19:00  concert  Forty Kleparz

A project born from the fascination with the music of the Balkans, especially brass. The musicians cultivate a unique style of playing their instruments, characteristic of the Balkans.

This is a return to the primordial and the unbound. A fusion of the traditional and modern, of the solemn and the mocking. A powerful doze of Balkan energy aside, their music also has archaic melodies from Poland entwined in an attempt at grasping the Slavic temperaments and manner of sensing the music. Unusual harmonies, ostensible disorder, and characteristic “wildness of the heart” make the music they play with a highly sensuous passion felt rather than heard. They have been together since 2011, performing in France, Germany, and Serbia, where in 2014 they won the 2nd Prize in the international category at the legendary Guca Festival. They have recorded with Renata Przemyk, Alosza Awdiejew and Maja Sikorowska, and worked with a Balkan vocalist, Alexandra Mandran. The founder of the band is Przemek Sokół, trumpeter and composer who has worked with truly poles-apart artists, to mention Katarzyna Gaertner, Justyna Steczkowska, and Maciej Maleńczuk.
