Katia Guerreiro (Portugal)
Born in 1977 in South Africa, the fado singer is compared to the legendary Amalia Rodriguez. Katia comes from the traditional fado school – the critics emphasize on her expression and the special beauty of her voice, writing that she is even the incarnation of the Portuguese saudade: inseparable from fado concept, meaning sadness, melancholy, loneliness. The work of Katia Guerreiro is a new fado, interpretation of contemporary poetry and composition while maintaining traditional performance expression.
Concert as part of the festival: July 20, 2003, 8:30 PM
