Joanna Słowińska - Archipelago / Poland

One of the most charismatic figures on the Polish scene, she is a singer with great stage personality; not afraid of new challenges and artistic experiments.

Both years ago and now, Joanna Słowińska has appeared with the group Muzykanci. For years, though, she has been releasing numerous original projects. In 2004, she won the Grand Prix and the Audience Award at the Festival of Polish Radio New Tradition, and her subsequent albums “Live in Alchemia” (2005) and “Możesz być” (2007) were at the forefront of the competition for the Folk Phonogram of the Year. The album “Możesz być” won this prestigious title. The artist has worked with Jarosław Bester and the Gardzienice Centre for Theatre Practices, and Zygmunt Konieczny has composed for her. As part of the EURORADIO EBU Folk Festival she has twice represented Polish Radio: with Muzykanci in 2000, and with a solo project in 2005. In 2013, she was honoured by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage with the Gloria Artis medal for Cultural Merit. She has performed original recitals in the USA (NY Broadway Symphony Space, Chicago Cultural Center) and most European countries.

The artist will present a special version of project “Archipelago/Kraków”, inspired by Polish motifs and Slavic ritual songs. In concert she will be accompanied by a group of musicians from the ethno, improvised music, and jazz scenes. On stage with her will be Stanisław Słowiński – violinist with the group AKT, members of the group Muzykanci, the singer Katarzyna Bogusz and eminent musicians from the improvised music scene: Paweł Kaczmarczyk (a concert pianist who has performed worldwide and the leader of the Audiofeeling Trio), Marcin Oleś (a bassist who works with leading Polish improvisers and eminent representatives of American jazz) and Tomasz Kukurba (violist and vocalist with Kroke).
