Chłopcy kontra Basia (Poland)

(25.07.2012, 7:00 PM, Magazyn Kultury | Kolanko No 6)

The band was founded in 2009 in Krakow. The group's material consists of original compositions inspired by Polish traditional culture. The texts by Basia Derlak are carefully prepared on the basis of archival recordings and ethnographic notes, so that they can reflect the style of fairy tale, drawn-out story or folk song. Folk fascinations are also manifested in the musical layer: in the form of an oberek phrase, the severity of a ritual song, or the melody of a ballad. Everything is presented in modern, jazz arrangements. Basia Derlak is the laureate of the 1st Prize of Ania Kiełbusiewicz of the "Mikołajki Folkowe" Festival, the band - a finalist of the TV show "Must be the Music" and the 2nd Prize of the prestigious competition of Polish Radio 'New Tradition' Festival. Currently the group is working on a phonographic debut.
