Belonoga / Bulgaria

Belonoga is the artistic pseudonym of the outstanding artist Gergana Dimitrova, previously known as one of the vocalists of the unforgettable groups Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares and Eva Quartet.

She can be heard on many albums, including “The Arch”, recorded a few years ago by Eva Quartet in collaboration with the legendary producer Hector Zazou; it was one of the last recordings this eminent artist made before his passing. The album features over fifty guest performers, including Bill Frisell, Laurie Anderson, Ryūichi Sakamoto, Djivan Gasparyan, and Bollywood String Orchestra.

It was this recording that inspired Dimitrova’s latest project. Recorded over the period of four years, Belonoga’s fascinating “Through The Eyes Of The Sun” is the culmination of her exploration of the heritage of Aborigine and Pygmy cultures, and – naturally – Bulgarian traditions.

Dimitrova used the opportunity to find a new sound to her own voice. As well as the artist herself, the key role on the project was played by the Bulgarian artist Aleks Nushev. He plays electronic instruments, guitar and bass guitar, and he was the co- creator of compositions and arrangements. He also provided the recording studio for creating this extraordinary album.
