Ania z Zielonego Wzgórza [Anne of Green Gables] (Poland)
The band was formed in autumn 2000 in Lublin on the initiative of Anna Kiełbusiewicz and Grzegorz Lesiak. It is a continuation of the solo activity of the singer, known for her unusual interpretations of songs from Upper Silesia. For many years, the artist searched for folk themes in old Silesian songbooks. Her talent and temperament caused that, with only guitar accompaniment, the songs that were originally raw, grew completely new energy, gaining a characteristic climate, unusual melisms, often a new melody and rhythm. Now they have been enriched with fresh space and arrangement ideas that are born when the sensitivity of individual band musicians meets. The group's repertoire consists mainly of energetic songs in a reggae climate, played with a jazz flair, and extremely charming and rare Upper Silesian ballads.
