Tim Eriksen - „The epic poem of Appalachia” (USA)

night of 26/27.07.2008, 11:00 PM, Rotunda - „Concert of epic songs”

American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, ethnomusicologist, composer and poet, expert of folk music from New England and Appalachia, leader of a band Cordelia's Dad, tireless popularizer of the tradition of collective singing of polyphonic Protestant hymns (Sacred Harp). He is the most outstanding performer of ancient American ballads, love and religious songs, which he sings a cappella or with accompaniament of banjo and violin, extracting from them the tremendous power of expression. He is one of the few singers that are still able to use the old technique of voice extraction and archaic ornamentation, continuing hundreds years old tradition. His minimalistic style of singing and extraordinary timbre brings to him many different artistic ideas – he cooperated with Hollywood, he performed in Carnegie Hall in the folk singer's part in the symphonic poem of Evan Chambers „Old Burying Ground”, he concerted in the legendary New York club Blue Note, with a jazz quintet of Omar Sosa. The concert in Krakow is a part of his first tournée of Central Europe.
