Jan Karpiel-Bułecka (Poland, Podhale)
Born in 1956. He comes from a well-known and honoured family of Zakopane artists and builders. His first violin teacher was his father. He is considered to be one of the best primers in Podhale. He is also a multi-instrumentalist and instrument builder, virtuoso of playing shepherd instruments: single and double pipes, thrombite and Podhale bagpipes, i.e. koza. Today he is an outstanding musician in Podhale, an expert in highlander and Carpathian music and tradition. An architect by profession - he graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the Cracow University of Technology. He is a laureate of the Stanisław Wyspiański Award for 1988 for outstanding achievements in the field of folk art. He gives a lot of concerts, both with the Zbigniew Namysłowski quartet (the "Fryderyk 96" Award) and his own band.
