Jan Karpiel Bułecka (Poland)

 

Jan Karpiel Bułecka - the founder of the bands Zokopiany and Buduj a woloj, he comes from a family with strong musical traditions. His father - Bolesław was a primist violinist and a collector of Podhale notes; mother Zofia performed in the band of Klimek Bachleda from Zakopane. He learned to play from his father, but he himself mastered other shepherd instruments of the Podhale region, of which he is also a builder: single pipes, double pipes, trombite and Podhale bagpipes (koza). Today he is an outstanding musician of Podhale, an expert in highlander (Górale) and Carpathian music and tradition. He is an architect by profession, he graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the Politechnika Krakowska [Cracow University of Technology]. He is the laureate of the Stanisław Wyspiański Award in 1988 for outstanding achievements in the field of folk art. He performs a lot, both with the Zbigniew Namysłowski quartet ("Fryderyk 96" award) and his own band Buduj a woloj.
