Ahlberg, Ek & Roswall / Sweden

Since their foundation in 2010, Ahlberg, Ek & Roswall have been performing live frequently and regularly, both in their native Sweden and all over Europe. The trio perform folk music from the Medelpad and Scania regions, playing traditional pieces alongside their own compositions.

Their work is characterised with virtuosity and dynamism enticing audiences to listen and to dance. The group’s sound is based around the consonance of violin, harp guitar and nyckelharpa, and they constantly explore new musical frontiers. Seeking inspiration from genres as diverse as Baroque and pop, the artists have created their own, unique style, which quickly earned them admiration from the public. Their music invokes a wide spectrum of emotions, from sorrow to joy. All this means that it’s virtually impossible to sit still during their concerts. Ahlberg, Ek & Roswall were nominated for the best group title during the 2014 and 2015 Folk and World Music Galas.

Emma Ahlberg, originally from Sundsvall in central Sweden, grew up in a family of folk musicians and graduated from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. Emma is a member of several Swedish groups, including Limbohofvet, Mission Melpa and Lili Mountain Band. In 2010, she was awarded the Riksspelman title (Folk Musician of the Year).

Daniel Ek was born and brought up in Vuollerim in Lapland. He took up guitar when he was just eight years old. As well as classical guitar, he also plays Renaissance lute, electric guitar, and Swedish bagpipes. He has performed with ensembles including Göran Månsson Band and Ranarim.

Niklas Roswall comes from the village of Kverrestad in Scania. He started off playing violin, but he soon gave it up in favour of nyckelharpa. He is now one of the most acclaimed musicians performing on this instrument. He has also been the member of Ranarim.
